Metro area road closures planned for the weekend

Drivers in the Twin Cities will encounter yet another weekend of road closures and traffic congestion around the metro area.

Bridge repair and pavement work will close a portion of I-35W. Crews will also be placing bridge segments at the eastern junction of I-35W and Highway 62. And four bridges on I-94 in Minneapolis will be prepped and painted.

Several short-term intersection closures are also scheduled on city streets in Minneapolis.

Starting at 6 a.m. Friday, paving will occur on 2nd Ave. S. between 9th and 12th streets in Minneapolis.

On Saturday morning, paving will also occur on Marquette Ave. between 10th and 12th streets starting at 7 a.m. The closures will last 15 to 60 minutes, and police officers will be on site to direct traffic during that time.

Highway closures will start at 10 p.m. Friday and will include:

* All northbound lanes on I-35W, from Highway 62 to I-94;

* All southbound lanes on I-35W, between 60th Street to Highway 62;

* All westbound lanes on I-94, between I-35W and Hwy 280. The eastbound lanes will remain open.

All lanes will reopen at 5 a.m. Monday, June 15.

Highway 62 will remain open during the closures, but motorists traveling along southbound I-35W from downtown will not be able to access westbound Highway 62 during the weekend.
