Mayo joins Mall of America expansion plans

The Mayo Clinic has signed a letter of intent to be a part of the Mall of America's expansion plans. Mayo CEO Glenn Forbes said the clinic has yet to determine the facility's focus, but he said it won't be primary care. It's also unclear when the office will see its first patient. Forbes said Mayo is growing in new ways.

"This is how we meet the needs of the patient," Forbes said. "In past times, we may have had the patients come to us. We're reaching out to where the patients are. To where the individuals are. Whether it's in the Internet, whether it's where people publicly congregate. This is what the needs are. This is where the future's going."

Mayo is the fourth organization to announce plans to join the Mall of America's expansion. The other tenants include a hotel, a water park and a Bass Pro shop. An official with the mall said it expects to announce another tenant in a few weeks.
