Increase in permitting activity could be a sign of builder confidence

Home builders pulled 332 permits to build new housing in the month of June.

That's the highest number since last August, and a 27 percent increase over May, according to the Builders Assocation of the Twin Cities.

Brooklyn Park had the strongest building permit activity in the metro area in June, with 33 units permitted. Maple Grove followed with 32 units. Woodbury issued permits for 31 units, Eagan had 24, and Blaine issued 23.

Permitting activity can be a sign of builder confidence.

While the numbers show improvement over recent months, permitting activity in June was still down dramatically from years past; it was 78 percent lower than during the same period 4 years ago.
