Lemaire, 63, was the head coach of the Minnesota Wild NHL team from 2000 through the end of this past season, when he resigned.

Lemaire led the Devils to the Stanley Cup in 1995. He was hired Monday to replace Brent Sutter, who resigned after two seasons with New Jersey.

Lemaire coached the Devils from 1993 to 1998. The Stanley Cup title in 1995 was the first of three for the Devils.
