MnSCU set to approve 3 percent tuition hikes
The Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system is set to approve a budget this week that would increase tuition at its colleges and universities by about 3 percent.
The Board of Trustees is scheduled to meet in workshop sessions on Tuesday to discuss budget issues and other subjects, then come back on Wednesday for final votes.
MnSCU Chancellor James H. McCormick is recommending a budget in which college students would pay an average tuition of $4,200, or 2.8 percent more than this year. Students at its seven state universities would pay an average tuition of $5,800, or 3 percent more.
It's not all good news, however. About 550 jobs are expected to be unfilled or eliminated by the end of the next fiscal year.
