DFLers in governor's race to debate today in Duluth

The ten Democratic candidates for governor will participate in a televised debate today in Duluth.

Ten candidates were set share a stage in what is believed to be the first televised debate of the 2010 campaign. The American Federation of State County and Municipal Employees Council 5 sponsored the event.

The union said Republican candidates turned down the invitation to participate. The 2 p.m. debate will be taped live and broadcast Saturday, October 10 from 5-7 p.m. on MY 9, KBJR-TV and on public access channels statewide.

AFSCME Council 5 has 43,000 members, many of whom are state workers. Its leaders say they might endorse a gubernatorial candidate by the end of the month.

(Editor's note: This Associated Press report previously indicated the debate would be broadcasted live, which was incorrect.)
