Mpls. church to mark anniversary of Norway attack

Sunday marks the one-year anniversary of a terrorist attack in Norway, and the Norwegian Lutheran Memorial Church in Minneapolis will hold a special service to remember the victims.

The bilingual service will honor 77 people killed in an attack on a government center and a youth camp in Oslo, the capital. A news advisory from the church says that Minnesota has nearly 900,000 citizens of Norwegian descent.

Orlyn Kringstad, the congregation's president, says the service not only remembers the victims but also furthers the healing process.

"The way that the Norwegians handled the aftermath last year I think is really commendable," Kringstad says. "They met bullets with roses, literally."

The service will include translations, a special prayer and a message from the honorary consul general from Norway.

In Norway, a trial for the suspect in the attack, Anders Behring Breivik, ended in June. A five-judge panel is expected to make a ruling this month or next.
