3 generations killed in head-on crash

WILLMAR, Minn. (AP) -- A head-on collision near Willmar has claimed the lives of three people: a 68-year-old woman, her adult daughter and her 8-year-old granddaughter.

The State Patrol says the accident happened about 9 p.m. Friday on Highway 12.

Authorities say a pickup driven by a 21-year-old Norwood man crossed the center line and collided with a minivan driven by Marta G. Stoffers of Atwater.

She was killed, along with her 40-year-old daughter, Michelle L. Hoffman of Eden Prairie. Hoffman's daughter, 8-year-old Julia G. Hoffman also died, and 5-year-old Jason W. Hoffman was hospitalized in critical condition.

The State Patrol says alcohol was detected on the man and in his vehicle. A West Central Tribune report says he was treated at a hospital and arrested on tentative charges of criminal vehicular homicide.
