Minn. online jobs postings decline

Demand for workers in Minnesota fell in August, according to the research group The Conference Board.

The group found a slight drop from July to August in Minnesota job openings posted online. But advertised positions are up about 10 percent from December on a seasonally adjusted basis.

Based on the most recent unemployment data available, The Conference Board says there are 1.4 out-of-work Minnesotans chasing each position posted online. During the depths of the recession, there were nearly five job seekers for every vacancy.

The board counts new ads, as well as ads that have been reposted but excludes duplicate ads. In August, there were 121,000 online postings for jobs in Minnesota — that's a drop of 2,400.
