2 victims recovered from Cass Co. lake

The bodies of two men have been recovered from a Cass County lake after their boat capsized in strong wind.

The sheriff's department received a report of a capsized boat on Lake Winnibigoshish (win-ih-bih-GOSH'-ish) near Bena on Saturday about 6:30 p.m. Responding deputies found the boat and several items floating nearby. The area was searched by boat and by air until dark. Authorities say the wind was gusting between 30 mph and 40 mph at the time.

The search resumed at daylight on Sunday. The body of a 43-year-old Minneapolis man was recovered near shore about 9:30 a.m. The body of a 53-year-old Princeton man was found about 200 yards from the boat about 5 p.m.

The Lakes Area Dive Team, the state Department of Natural Resources and Leech Lake tribal police helped in the search.
