City braces for loss of Wild fans' business

Downtown St. Paul business owners are bracing for the fallout from an National Hockey League lockout that went into effect on Saturday night.

President Matt Kramer of the St. Paul Downtown Area Chamber of Commerce says he's very concerned about how much business restaurants and stores will lose without Minnesota Wild games at the Xcel Energy Center.

"The fun, the excitement that they bring to downtown St Paul and to the region is absolutely -- you can certainly quantify it in an economic sense, but I'd say much more important is the qualitative sense of what it does to Minnesota to now not have professional hockey in downtown St Paul and in the region," Kramer said.

In a statement the Minnesota Wild say they support the National Hockey League's position. The team says season ticket holders will receive further information about their accounts on Monday.
