6,650 acres burned in NW Minn. wildfires

State fire management officers said that eight fires in northwest Minnesota have burned about 6,650 acres.

Officials said peat continues to smolder near Karlstad, although a fire near County Road 27 was about 90 percent contained.

Local farmers were assisting firefighters near the town of Viking, where six buildings were destroyed.

Firefighters have fully contained fires in the Wannaska Complex, with nine homes and 31 other buildings lost.

Officials said that dangerous driving conditions and hypothermia continue to be a concern for firefighters.
