Woman shot dead in St. Paul

Police in St. Paul say they're investigating the shooting death of a woman on the city's East Side yesterday afternoon.

Spokesman Sgt. Paul Poulus said the victim was a young adult, and that she was found in a car in an alley on the 900 block of Reaney Avenue.

Investigators are currently working to determine what took place in the moments up to the shooting, including whether there was anyone in the car with the woman at the time. They said there is nothing to indicate that the shooting was the result of a random act.

Police said they think they know who the woman is, although they're waiting for positive identification from the Ramsey County Medical Examiner's office.

They don't have anyone in custody, but may have more to say about the slaying Monday afternoon.
