Woman dies in house fire near Bemidji

BEMIDJI, Minn. (AP) -- The Minnesota State Fire Marshal's office is helping investigate a house fire that killed a woman east of Bemidji.

Firefighters were called around 2:45 a.m. Friday and arrived to find the home engulfed in flames.

Crews prevented the fire from spreading to other structures on the property. After the fire was put out, firefighters discovered the body of an elderly woman. Her name was not immediately released.

Beltrami County Sheriff Phil Hodapp tells The Bemidji Pioneer that foul play is not suspected. An autopsy is planned. The Bemidji Fire Department and the sheriff's office are investigating.
