Anoka-Hennepin School Board hears petitioners seeking ouster of anti-bullying task force member
The Anoka-Hennepin School Board listened to testimony but took no action Monday evening after a group presented a petition seeking the ouster of one member of the district's anti-bullying task force.
About 2,400 people signed an online petition asking the school board to remove Bryan Lindquist from the 26-member group.
In the past Lindquist has referred to homosexuality as a sexual disorder.
Five people spoke in favor of his removal, saying Lindquist's views make him a poor choice for a task force that is purposed with evaluating the district's bullying policy.
Two people defended Lindquist, saying he was being targeted for his conservative Christian views.
The anti-bullying task force is a requirement under a lawsuit that was settled in the spring. Six Anoka-Hennepin students sued the district saying its bullying policy did not protect students who are gay or perceived to be gay.
