Metro road crews standing by as rain falls

The Minnesota Department of Transportation reported fair driving conditions Saturday on wet roads throughout the Twin Cities.

Minneapolis public works had a skeleton crew plowing some streets and responding to complaints. Spokesman Mike Kennedy said the department is bringing in a larger crew for the night shift, adding that they will have salt and equipment ready if rain turns to snow.

In St. Paul, public works spokesman Dave Hunt says crews were concentrating on clearing drainage systems to prevent flooding. He said it does no good to treat roads while it's raining, but 20 staff members were on duty with salt ready to go if needed.
