Twin Cities nurses ratify new contract
Union nurses in the Twin Cities announced late Thursday night ratified a new three-year contract with 13 health care facilities in the Twin Cities.
The Minnesota Nurses Association said it has approved a contract negotiated with health care providers that belong to the Minnesota Hospitals Association. The agreement runs from June next year through May of 2016 and covers about 12,000 nurses. The three year deal sets a 4.5 percent wage increase over the term of the contract.
Negotiations involved wages only, according to the union. The employers involved include Children's Hosptials, Allina hospitals, Fairview Southdale and Riverside, HealthEast, the North Memorial Medical Center and Park Nicollet Methodist Hospital.
Labor strife has marked the negotiations with the state's nurses and health care providers in recent years. Twin Cities nurses went on a one-day strike in 2010, mostly over staffing issues. One hundred-fifty union nurses in Hibbing staged a three-day strike at the Fairview hospital there last summer.
