Dayton staying extra day at Mayo Clinic

Gov. Mark Dayton is spending one more day at the Mayo Clinic to recover from back surgery. He had initially planned to be released Monday.

A spokeswoman for the governor said the decision was made after Dayton consulted with his doctor about his recovery. He is now scheduled to return to the governor's residence on Tuesday.

Dayton underwent back surgery on his lower spine on Thursday. His spokeswoman said he will continue his recovery at home once he is released. His public events for the first two weeks are being rescheduled.

The Legislature will convene on Jan. 8. Dayton is required to announce his two-year budget plan by Jan. 22.
