Winter Carnival snow sculpting returns

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) -- The Minnesota State Snow Sculpting Competition is returning to this year's St. Paul Winter Carnival.

The event was canceled last year because of unseasonably warm weather and lack of snow.

But this year, Green Acres Recreation will provide snow-making equipment to make artificial snow for the competition. Colder temperatures this year also will make it easier to create artificial snow.

Three-member teams from around Minnesota have from 9 a.m. Friday, Jan. 25, until noon Sunday, Jan. 27, to transform a block of snow into artwork at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds.

The Winter Carnival will be held Jan. 24 through Feb. 3.
