Meeting at Washburn after racial incident

Minneapolis school district officials will hold a public meeting on Wednesday to address a racial incident at a high school in south Minneapolis.

The meeting was planned in response to an incident that took place last week at Washburn High School.

Four students put string around the neck of a dark-skinned doll, hung it up, took pictures and posted them on social media sites.

District officials say the students have been disciplined but did not offer details, citing student privacy.

In an email newsletter, superintendent Bernadia Johnson said the Minneapolis district is committed to diversity and will not accept racial intolerance.

Johnson said the meeting, indended to promote discussion and healing, will be held at 5 p.m. Wednesday in the Washburn High School auditorium.
