Baby pulled from SUV in Lake Minnetonka

MINNETRISTA, Minn. (AP) -- A baby girl is in critical condition and three other family members are being treated after their sport utility vehicle went through the ice on Lake Minnetonka.

Hennepin County sheriff's spokeswoman Lisa Kiava says the SUV went through the ice below Halstead Bay Bridge in Minnetrista just after 5 p.m. Friday.

A Mound firefighter who lives near the bridge and a friend used a hook to help pull a woman from the water. Her 2-year-old daughter was rescued from the shore.

The woman's husband was trying to rescue their 9-month-old daughter, who was strapped in the back seat of the submerged vehicle. Two Mound firefighters wearing protective suits pulled the baby from the SUV.

Kiava says the baby is in critical condition. The other family members are expected to survive.
