SD interstates closed because of storm

PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -- State officials have started closing interstates in South Dakota as blizzard conditions move into the state.

Terry Woster with the Department of Public Safety says Interstate 90 between Wall and Chamberlain and Interstate 29 from Watertown to the North Dakota border were closed Sunday morning.

He says falling snow and strong winds are combining to create slippery roads and near-zero visibility.

Travelers are advised to delay trips in the direction of the closed highway from either direction until conditions improve.

The high winds are forecast to continue through Sunday and into Monday, so officials say other interstate closures are likely.
