Missouri man who stabbed police dog is shot, killed by officers

St. Paul police say a man was shot and killed by officers Tuesday afternoon after he fatally stabbed a police dog.

Police say the man from Missouri was wanted in connection with a warrant for first-degree criminal sexual conduct. St. Paul police, with members of the North Star Fugitive Task Force and U.S. Marshal Service, were planning to arrest the man at a home in the Summit University neighborhood. Police have not identified the man killed or the officers involved.

A statement Tuesday night from Mayor Chris Coleman's office offered condolences to Officer Dave Longbehn on the loss of his K-9 partner, Kody.

"Kody was Officer Longbehn's eyes and ears on the front line and served Dave, the Saint Paul Police Department, and our city with honor for seven years," Coleman said.
