Death of Winona student investigated

Police say foul play is not suspected in the death of a Winona State University student who was discovered in a dorm room over the weekend.

But Winona police Sgt. Chris Nelson says the investigation into 19-year-old Mitchell Grierson's death is ongoing.

Authorities were called to campus early Sunday after Grierson was discovered by a friend. Nelson says he was dead when authorities arrived.

Nelson says there were no obvious signs of trauma, and it will be some time before toxicology results are completed. He says police are looking at everything, including natural causes, or whether alcohol or controlled substances were factors.

Police are also talking with those who saw Grierson last.

Grierson is from Dassel. KAGE Radio reports he was a freshman who enrolled last fall.
