Clean water: life changing for 5 million Haitians

Wells made possible by Haiti Outreach are sustainably managed by local communities. With clean, safe water in their neighborhoods, waterborne illnesses decrease, and collecting water is quick, allowing children to go to school and giving adults more time to earn a living.

Friday is World Water Day. The United Nations hopes you are thinking about how we manage freshwater resources to make sure people around the world have fair access to clean water. For almost all of us, we open the tap, and take a drink without even thinking much about it.

But getting fresh water to people is a topic that one organization here in Minnesota has been thinking about and working on.

Jeffrey Brown, president of Haiti Outreach, speaks with MPR News about water efforts in Haiti.
