Fargo preparing to make sandbags

Fargo officials are preparing for volunteers to fill sandbags.

The city plans to fill 1 million sandbags in preparation for spring flood along the Red River and its tributaries. Half of those bags will be available to Cass County residents.

The latest flood outlook by the National Weather Service gives a 50 percent chance of the river topping out at 20 feet above flood stage in Fargo and neighboring Moorhead, Minn.

Fargo's volunteer hotline will be accepting calls Monday. Sandbag operations are scheduled to start Wednesday at a city storage facility.

The hotline number is 701-476-4000.
