Prison terms for 2 after assault was recorded on voicemail

Two men have been sentenced for an aggravated robbery that was recorded in a voicemail message.

Brandon Pritchett, 25, of Minneapolis and Anthony Darling, 24, of Chicago allegedly assaulted a man in Brooklyn Park.

Early on July 8, Pritchett and Darling grabbed a man as he was getting out of his car in his driveway, according to a criminal complaint. They put a bag on his head and took his keys, money and cellphone. They hit him, shot him and took his car, the complaint said.

It did not take long for the police in Anoka County to pull the stolen car over and arrest Pritchett and Darling.

The two men plead guilty to one count of first-degree aggravated robbery after investigators learned the victim had called his girlfriend just before he was grabbed. The criminal complaint says the call went to voicemail. It recorded the robbery, a gunshot, and Pritchett and Darling squabbling.

The judge in the case handed down prison sentences of 92 months for Pritchett and 50 months for Darling.

The victim recovered, though the bullet remains in his chest.
