Several public open houses this week are a chance for people to ask questions about the placement of 17 planned stations along the Southwest Light Rail Transit line.

Engineers and Metropolitan Council staff will be on hand to discuss the transit line. Maps and diagrams of the 15-mile route between Eden Prairie and Minneapolis will be available for viewing, said Metropolitan Council communications director Laura Baenen said.

"And so they can explain where the station locations are in relation to existing businesses, existing streets, trails and homes -- as well as where there's opportunity around these stations for future development," Baenen said.

Open houses will be held from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Monday in Minneapolis, Tuesday in Hopkins and Thursday in St. Louis Park. A complete list of meeting times and locations is available on the Met Council's website for the transit line.

The station locations will be finalized before the end of the year.
