MNsure I.T. costs up nearly $5M
Costs to build the technology infrastructure of Minnesota's new online health insurance marketplace have gone up nearly $5 million. But the state will be able to use federal funds that are already in hand to cover the increase.
Last July, the state awarded a $41.2 million contract to Maximus, a Virginia company, to build Minnesota's new online health insurance marketplace, MNsure. MNsure must be operational for consumers by Oct. 1. Officials say the state made three amendments to the original contract and will pay Maximus an additional $4.7 million.
The funding will cover additional staff required to make the Oct. 1 deadline; purchase additional software licenses for staff at the county level and the department of human services that will have to access some of MNsure's components; and expand MNsure to include financial data related to child support.
