Man killed in river crash was college student

The driver whose car plunged into the Mississippi River in downtown Minneapolis late Monday has been identified as a student at North Central University.

A statement from the school said Darron Luhrsen, 26, of Minneapolis died of his injuries Monday night. A university vice president said Luhrsen was a "standout student and good friend to many at NCU."

The Hennepin County Sheriff's office said a Pontiac Sunfire drove off of West River Parkway, crashed through a security fence near the Stone Arch bridge and went into the Mississippi River below. Divers located the car about 40 feet from shore.
