Boy, 5, drowns in Grand Rapids lake

A 5-year-old boy has drowned while swimming in a northeastern Minnesota lake.

The Grand Rapids Police Department says officers were called to Crystal Lake about 1:30 p.m. Saturday. Officers were told the boy slipped under the water while trying to climb atop a raft.

Police officers and other first responders jumped in the water and found the boy. He died at Grand Itasca Clinic and Hospital.

The boy's name has not been released.

Police say they're still investigating the events leading up to the drowning.
