Train hits and kills Eveleth man

A 38-year-old Eveleth man died after being struck by a train just before 3 a.m. Sunday in northeast Minnesota.

The St. Louis County Sheriff's Office said an unidentified man was on the tracks in Mountain Iron when he was hit by a southbound Canadian National Railroad train on the railroad's property near Mountain Iron Drive, near the boundary between Mountain Iron and Virginia. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The sheriff's office said it was investigating. Authorities say the victim's name will be released once family members are notified.
