St. Paul Mayor Chris Coleman is picking up a new title: president.

Coleman assumes the head role at the National League of Cities on Saturday during the group's conference in Seattle. It comes soon after Coleman was elected to a third term.

He succeeds Mayor Marie Lopez Rogers of Avondale, Ariz.

Coleman is the first Minnesota mayor to hold the title since Minnetonka Mayor Karen Anderson served as president in 2002. Others from Minnesota to serve as league president include Donald Fraser of Minneapolis in 1993 and George Latimer of St. Paul in 1984.

The league counts more than 2,000 towns and cities as dues-paying members.
