Mondale passed away this week at age 83.

Matthew Little, former president of the Minneapolis NAACP, considers St. Paul's election of Harrington and Moran a landmark long overdue. Two percent of Minnesota's legislature will be African American in 2011, compared to 4 percent of the state's population.

Part 2: Matthew Little
Hear a 1995 "Voices of Minnesota" interview with Minnesota civil rights leader Matthew Little.

Little died on Jan. 26 at the age of 92. He grew up in Washington, D.C. and moved to Minneapolis in 1948. He was active in the effort to desegregate the Minneapolis public schools. Little served as president of the Minnesota chapter of the NAACP for many years before retiring in 1993. Thirty years earlier he led the Minnesota delegation in the 1963 March on Washington.
