Sociology and political science professor Lane Kenworthy explains the ideas in his newest book, "Social Democratic America" at the University of Minnesota Humphrey School. He says the US faces three core economic problems: economic insecurity, disparities in economic opportunity based on class and income, and a lack of shared prosperity. Despite bad economic forces, Kenworthy says he is optimistic that in the long view, American public policy will evolve in the direction of "helping rather than hurting."
