The woman had an active restraining order against the suspect, and he previously violated the order and was cited, according to police.

The last reported homicide in New Brighton was in 2010, when a retired New Brighton firefighter, Lee Goodwin, was discovered dead in his home. His death remains unsolved, according to police.
