Crews remove plane wreckage from Lake Superior
Crews have removed the wreckage of a fatal plane crash from Lake Superior.
St. Louis County Rescue Squad Captain Tom Crossmon says crews retrieved the wreckage and were returning it to shore Monday afternoon.
WDIO-TV reports divers would have to head nearly 140 feet underwater to retrieve the wreckage.
The sheriff's office has identified the plane's owner as 47-year-old Alexander Obersteg of Steinfeld, Germany.
Authorities recovered Obersteg's body two weeks ago and believe he is the sole victim of the crash. An autopsy ruled out the possibility of a medical emergency contributing to the crash, but the exact cause is still under investigation by the Federal Aviation Administration.
