Ex-football player injured in fight transferred

A former Minnesota State, Mankato football player severely injured in a fight is being transferred from a Mankato hospital to an inpatient rehabilitation program in the Twin Cities.

The family of Isaac Kolstad said Tuesday he continues to make progress in his recovery.

Kolstad suffered a fractured skull and traumatic brain injury in a May 11 fight in downtown Mankato. Prosecutors have charged former University of Minnesota quarterback Philip Nelson of Mankato and Trevor Shelley of St. Peter with assault.

Previously, relatives said Kolstad was doing standing exercises each day and interacting more with family members, including his 2-week-old daughter.
