Some historical context for the troubled relationship between the United States and Iran.
The U.N. General Assembly established September 26th as the "International Day for the Total Elimination of Nuclear Weapons." At that UN meeting, Iran's deputy foreign minister said working toward the goal of eliminating nuclear weapons is a "legal, political and moral responsibility." But the Iranian leader said the United States' desire to be at the "top of the pack" is fueling a new nuclear arms race.
President Trump says he has decided what to do about the Iran nuclear deal, and will announce his decision soon. During the campaign, President Trump promised to tear up the nuclear deal with Iran. Former NPR host Neal Conan explores the history, and the consequences.
