Former CBS News anchor Dan Rather speaks in Minnesota about the ideas in his new book, "What Unites Us: Reflections on Patriotism."

Rather spoke November 31 and December 1 in the "Pen Pals" lecture series sponsored by the Friends of the Hennepin County Library. The event was moderated by MPR's Marianne Combs and held at the Hopkins Center for the Arts.

Rather had a 44-year career at CBS News, which ended under a cloud because of a flawed "60 Minutes" report about then-President George W. Bush's military service during the Vietnam War. He won an Emmy in 2008 for his HDNet show, "Dan Rather Reports" and has found a new audience on Facebook.
