Copyright concerns delay Messersmith's album release
Neil Diamond's "Sweet Caroline" is one reason why Jeremy Messersmith had to delay the release of his new album "Late Stage Capitalism."
The Star Tribune reports that after the album was finished someone noticed that parts of Messersmith's song "Purple Hearts" sound enough like "Sweet Caroline" that it could get them sued for copyright infringement.
They contacted Diamond and it took three months for him to agree that Messersmith could have full rights to the song in exchange for a courtesy credit. That deal allows Messersmith to license the song to a movie or a commercial.
