Ramsey County will help St. Paul defray the cost of cleaning up pollution at the site of the new minor league ballpark for the St. Paul Saints.
The county will contribute nearly $750,000 to the $63 million project. The city has also received clean-up grants from the Metropolitan Council and the state of Minnesota.
The grants will help pay down a $6 million "internal loan" the city was forced to take out when it discovered the Lowertown ballpark site was far more polluted than it originally believed.
The city is contributing $22 million to the project. The state of Minnesota will contribute $28 million, including its clean-up grants. The Saints are kicking in $11 million.
The ballpark is scheduled to open next year.
