N.D. ag commissioner: Get advice on VeraSun letter

North Dakota Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring is urging corn producers in the state to consult an attorney if they are asked to repay money from bankrupt ethanol producer VeraSun Energy Corp.

Midwest farmers who sold corn to VeraSun have been receiving official letters asking for most of that money back.

Several North Dakota producers have reported receiving the letter. Goehring says farmers shouldn't ignore the letter. But he says they shouldn't respond or sign anything before getting legal advice.

Sioux Falls, S.D.-based VeraSun filed for bankruptcy in October 2008 after tightening credit markets erased its lifeline to weather the swings in corn and fuel prices.
