Police arrest suspect in Patzner shooting

Minneapolis police have arrested a 24-year-old man in the shooting death of Jody Patzner Jr.

Police say they arrested the suspect earlier this week near his home about a block away from the scene of the shooting. Patzner was riding his bicycle on Monday night on the 3500 block of Fremont Ave. N. when he was shot.

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner says Patzner was hit in the chest and was pronounced dead at the scene.

MPR News will not name the suspect until he has been charged by the Hennepin County Attorney's office. County officials expect the decision on whether or not to charge the suspect will come on Monday.

The suspect has a criminal record which includes convictions for drug possession, terroristic threats and assault. In 2010 the man pleaded guilty to domestic assault by strangulation in Polk County.
