7-year-old boy pulled from abandoned St. Paul pool dies

A 7-year-old boy who was pulled from an abandoned swimming pool at a St. Paul apartment complex on Memorial Day has died.

The family's pastor, Peter Vogt of Trinity Baptist Church in Maplewood, says Sher Kpor died Thursday morning. He had been in critical condition since he and his 10-year-old brother got past a security fence and fell into the dirty water of the pool, which had been closed since 1996. The pastor says Sher stayed on life support and never regained consciousness.

The 10-year-old, Ma Kpaw, who tried to save him, was treated and released.

Property owner Samir Abumayyaleh says he plans to fill in the pool and put up a playground.

Also on Thursday, authorities identified the 3-year-old girl who was pulled from an apartment pool in Brooklyn Park earlier this week.

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner's office said Thursday that Corrianah Allure Wright died of apparent drowning early Monday.

Corrianah had been swimming in the pool with other children Sunday when she went under. Her death remains under investigation.
