A play written by Sophocles about 2,460 years ago forms the basis for a very modern story set in present day Minnesota.

Author Anne Burt's novel “The Dig” wrestles with the age-old issues of power and control underlying very modern realities of immigration and urban development in a small fictional Minnesota town named Thebes.

MPR News editor Euan Kerr spoke with Burt about reimagining an ancient tragedy for modern times.

You can hear Anne Burt read from her new novel, “The Dig” on at 6 p.m. on April 26 at Next Chapter Books in St Paul.
