President Donald Trump’s immigration enforcement operation in Minnesota, known as “Operation Metro Surge,” may have reached Rochester. A video circulating on social media shows a man with his hands behind his back being led into a black SUV driven away. A woman’s voice is heard on the video, yelling at the arresting officers. A local Somali immigrant advocate who knew the man said he has temporary protected status until March and was law abiding as far as he knows.
Minnesota Secretary of State Steve Simon will try for a fourth term in charge of an office that oversees elections and business registrations. The DFLer declared his 2026 intentions Tuesday telling MPR News that threats and challenges to elections are too great for him to step away.
