Camp House Fire was started after a man left a small fire before completely putting it out, new documents say

Documents from the investigation into the Camp House Fire show that the man who started the destructive blaze left a small fire before it was completely extinguished. When he returned about three hours later, the fire had spread out of control.

A Hennepin County jury has convicted a Minneapolis man for killing three people at a homeless encampment last year. In October of 2024, 41-year-old Earl Bennett fatally shot Christopher Martell Washington, Louis Mitchell Lemons, Jr. and Samantha Jo Moss.

A St. Cloud nonprofit — the Center for African Immigrants and Refugees Organization, or CAIRO — says it’s been the target of harassing behavior. CAIRO provides housing, health programs, workforce training and other services, mainly to the Somali community. Executive director Abdikadir Bashir says over the past couple of weeks, two white, middle-aged men showed up at CAIRO’s office. Bashir says they threatened staff and accused them of defrauding taxpayers.

Bashir says they appear to be unfairly linking his organization to the recent cases of fraud in government programs. St. Cloud police determined the men did not commit a crime, but they did ban one man from CAIRO’s office for a year for unacceptable behavior.
