An immigration judge has ruled against the asylum claims of Liam Conejo Ramos and his family, according to the family’s Minneapolis lawyer. The 5-year-old boy from Columbia Heights received national attention after he was detained by U.S. immigration authorities and sent to Texas along with his father.
Attorney Danielle Molliver told MPR News on Wednesday that the firm is appealing the decision. Molliver says an appeal could take months or years.
Two more defendants are scheduled to appear in federal court Thursday for their roles in a protest at a St. Paul church in January. The judge slightly delayed proceedings in the case to deal with scheduling issues for the dozens of defendants.
