A bill that enhances penalties for coercion passed the House unanimously Monday. The bill is called Carter's Law, after Carter Bremseth. He was a 16-year-old from Olivia, Minnesota. Carter died by suicide after a scammer pressured him to send nude photos and then extorted him.

A Hennepin County judge Monday handed a Minneapolis man a mandatory sentence of life in prison without the possibility parole for killing his former romantic partner. A jury last week convicted David Eugene Wright of premeditated first-degree murder in the death of 34-year-old Mariah Samuels.

Nursing home workers at five metro-area homes launched a three-day unfair labor practices strike Monday. More than 300 workers with SEIU Healthcare Minnesota and Iowa voted to strike following a push for higher wages and better benefits. They’re also calling for a solution to the worker shortage that they say affects Minnesota nursing homes.
